PrimeCare Health Mural Progress
BlueDoor South Lawndale Community Day
PrimeCare Health Community Health Centers has commissioned Chicago Public Art Group with CPAG core artist Rahmaan Statik, who will create a community engaged mural on the PrimeCare Health Center property, address 5635 W. Belmont, in theBelmont Cragin neighborhood.
This project aims to acknowledge the significance of current events and their impact on the community, promote awareness of the importance of community health centers and highlight the resilience of Belmont Cragin.
Virtual design workshops and an electronic neighborhood survey informed the design, adding specific images that celebrate the northwest side neighborhood. Key themes in the mural are:
Diversity: Polish, LatinX, African American
Bungalows
Food
Equity, diversity, resilience
Mr. Statik creates public murals that fuse the graffiti aesthetic and has produced dozens of community-engaged public murals all over Chicago and in many cities across the United States
The project started in September and should be finished in November 2020.
The aim of the Blue Door Neighborhood center is to help improve the health and wellness of residents, as well as support the overall development of opportunities for those living outside of downtown Chicago. Chicago Public Art Group has helped to create murals for Blue Door Neighborhood Centers in Morgan Park and Pullman.
CPAG Artists Sandra Antongiorgi, Miguel Del Real and Gabriel Villa are currently working with the community to complete a design for the center.
