In 2015-2016, Mirtes Zwierzynski created Kites on an outside wall of Daniel Weber Elementary school near a newly created garden with the assistance of around 195 students, grades 3-8. The three ‘kites’ float on the wall of the school, representing aspirations and dreams. The body of the kites are created as quilts with full tiles, whereas the tails are made of broken tiles and depict school activities. Students created drawings in workshops with Zwierzynski as part of the design process and learned how to cut and lay tile in the production of the mural.
