Come to Light

Come to Light is a lively bricolage mosaic that covers three sides of the old comfort station at Kathy Osterman Beach. Completed in 2011, the piece was created by lead artist Andy Bellomo and assisting artists Will Nicholson and Brett Whitacre with the help of community and student volunteers. The mosaic uses paint, tile, glass, mirror, and sculptural relief to create a sparkling depiction of planets amid sweeping bands of tile suggesting galaxies or waves on two sides of the comfort station. As the mural wraps around onto the third side of the building the colors shift into tans, reds, golds, and yellows, tying the celestial depictions to the mosaic’s location at one of Chicago’s public beaches.
