Artistic Movement

Damon Lamar Reed’s 2007 Artistic Movement is painted on the overpass below the Morse Red Line station in Chicago’s Rogers Park. The 4 x 80-foot piece is painted with acrylic on non-woven media.

Reed has worked on numerous murals in the Chicagoland area and has worked with the Chicago Public Art Group in the creation of Artistic Movement and Changemakers. In 2018, he worked with Bernard Williams to touch up William Walker’s famous Childhood is Without Prejudice. In his words, his aim “is to show the world that this ‘Hip-Hop’ generation is not completely lost. In my paintings, I uplift people, showing them there is a way out of the darkness. If one person or child can look at one of my creations or at my life as an example and decide to empower him or herself, then I have made my mark on the world.”
