Indian Land Dancing

Location: Foster Ave and Lake Shore Drive Underpass
Artists: Tracy Van Duinen and Todd Osborne
Sponsors: Alderman Mary Ann Smith, Edgewater Community members and businesses

The north and south side of this underpass have been transformed by community members working closely with artists to tell the story of the area's history as a center of Native American culture and how that culture translates to contemporary urban life. Community members donated photographs of themselves and their families that were then transferred onto tiles and placed in the mosaic. “Indian Land Dancing” is about the importance of family and community, and about the value of knowing one’s culture and history.
